How do I assemble my metal float frame?

Assemble the metal canvas frame by attaching the sides with threaded and backing plates, securing the canvas with screws through pre-drilled holes, and adding wire hangers and wall protectors for easy hanging.

Hardware Included:

  • 10 Canvas Screws
  • 4 Threaded Plates (with 2 screws each)
  • 4 Backing Plates
  • 2 Wire Hangers (with screws inserted)
  • Wire
  • 2 Wall Protectors

Materials Needed:

  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Phillips Screwdriver

Step-by-Step Assembly Instructions

1. Choose the Bottom and Attach All Sides

  • Note: Mitered corners can be sharp. Handle with care.
  • Start with the frame section that will form the bottom of the frame and place it face down, channel side up.
  • Place one threaded plate and one backing plate into the hardware track, with the text facing up. Gently tighten the screws.
  • Important: Do NOT fully tighten any screws until the frame is fully assembled.
  • Attach the two side sections by sliding the back channel into the angled plates and aligning the mitered ends. Gently tighten the screws.
  • Insert the corner plates into the remaining frame section (the top) and attach it to the sides. Gently tighten the screws.

2. Insert Your Canvas

  • Turn the frame face up and place your canvas evenly inside the frame.
  • Since the frame has a float gap, use cardboard or wood shims to center and align your canvas properly.
  • Secure the canvas by inserting screws through the pre-drilled holes on the frame and into the stretcher bars of your canvas.
  • Important: Ensure your stretcher bars are at least as thick as the 3/8” screws provided. If not, you will need shorter screws.

3. Tighten It Up

  • Double-check that your canvas is square within the frame. Adjust as needed to ensure proper alignment.
  • Once the canvas is correctly positioned, tighten all screws firmly to secure everything in place.

4. Add the Finishing Touches

  • Position one wire hanger on each side of the frame, typically about 1/3 of the way down from the top.
  • Tighten the screws on the hangers to secure them.
  • Loop the wire between the two hangers and twist the ends to keep the wire secure.
  • Attach the wall protectors to the bottom corners of the frame to protect your wall from damage.

After completing these steps, your metal canvas frame is now ready to securely display your artwork.
